Psalm 145:18 The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.
We often try to temper the truth with what we think the truth should be or what we want to truth to be. But we can’t ever get to that place where the truth should be UNLESS we deal with the truth about where we actually are. God meets us at the point of truth. He’s deeply committed based on what He’s written.
Here’s an example: Say I’m really upset with God because things in my world haven’t turned out the way I wanted them to, the way I have prayed for them to. I’m upset with God and upset that the circumstance isn’t what I want it to be. But I know that this is not where I should be and heaven knows, I know the whole perfect Christian response, too! You know- I’m sure you do. It goes like this- God is in control, we just don’t have the full picture, He has purpose in this circumstance being what it is, we can trust His love and His ways, ….yadda yadda yadda. So we quiet our voice, we use these words as shovels to bury what we are really feeling, we do not DARE allow ourselves to feel those things that we “wouldn’t” feel if our faith were strong enough.
BAHHHH humbug! Who the heck are we kidding? Well, certainly NOT the God of the universe. We can fool ourselves, lie convincingly to ourselves much easier than we can convince HIm. And we can easily lie to those around us as well. He is not fooled and He is waiting, patiently, in silence- until we come in truth.
Honestly, there ARE times that we do not have to go through the emotions to get to that place of acceptance and peace. But then there are those that we simply must go through in order to get to the other side. Note that I didn’t say around or under. I said through. And going through is the tougher choice, yet the only true choice.
But here’s the main point. God will be silent, He will not respond, unless you are in the truth zone with Him. If you have prayed in front of His throne and given Him the Christian rote responses, forget it. Silence. He only deals in truth. And you know what that requires? Yup. That’s it. It requires telling ourselves the truth.
Finding your knower- that place where you know that you know that you know- that are you telling yourself the truth, is crucial to any relationship with God. Now, He will totally answer if you pray for Him to get you to whatever is true. He will help you! Be willing for Him to reveal. Be not afraid.
This can transform your world. Please think about it.
Takeaway: We have to be in the truth zone with ourselves and with God if we want Him to meet us. If we are not hearing from HIm, then one of the questions we need to ask ourselves is if we are really, absolutely, operating out of what is true. If not, we need to back up and find the point of truth. (If we pray for God to help us to read the Bible but we really don’t have the desire, then we must not pray this. We must pray that He help us to “want to want to” read it.)
Prayer: Lord, you are abundantly clear that You are passionate about truth. Help me commit to being truthful- to myself and to You. And if I am not seeing the truth in any area, please reveal it to me so that my prayers will be effective. I love you.
